Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, marking the end of their nearly two-year marriage. In a surprising move, J Lo filed the legal documents herself, without a lawyer, in L.A. County Superior Court on Tuesday.
The couple’s separation date is listed as April 26, 2024. Notably, today, August 20, is the second anniversary of their traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia.
A source reveals to TMZ, “There is no prenuptial agreement.” This means their earnings during the marriage are consideried community property, including Ben’s profits from films like “Air” and “Hypnotic,” and J Lo’s earnings from projects like “Shotgun Wedding” and “The Mother.”
Jennifer has waived spousal support and requests the judge deny Ben support as well. With no children together, custody issues are not a concern.
Despite ongoing settlement talks, sources say the negotiations have become increasingly heated, with the couple sometimes not speaking to each other.
As J Lo filed for divorce, a source notes, “PR concerns” may have played a role in her decision to file first, despite it not affecting the legal outcome in a no-fault state.
The couple’s marital home in Beverly Hills is up for sale, and Ben has purchased a new house in Brentwood. J Lo is currently searching for a new home.
