Jada Pinkett Smith stirred up additional controversy with her ostensibly innocent 50th birthday tribute to Tupac Shakur. As many paid their respects to the late Hip Hop icon on June 16, 2021, Jada eclipsed other tributes with a poem by the late Tupac that had never been published before.

Supporters think that this has rekindled the animosity that arose from the “entanglement” scandal the year before.

In an interview with The Art Of Dialogue, published on Wednesday, Outlawz Immortalz original member Napoleon praised Jada Pinkett Smith’s recent Instagram post and shared insights on how Will Smith first connected with Tupac Shakur.

Napoleon recalled a time when they watched a movie with Jada Pinkett in Atlanta, and despite finding it boring, Tupac was intensely focused. The second time he heard Tupac talk about Jada was when he was upset in L.A., as Jada had reportedly told Tupac, “DON’T DO NOTHING to Will Smith!”

“I remember when I first came around Pac, Jada Pinkett was in a movie; it may have been the first movie she ever starred in with one of the Wayan Brothers — I can’t remember the name of it.”

“We went down to Atlanta and I’m a kid and I’m like, ‘This movie is boring as hell but Pac was just staring at the screen, just paying attention and really heavily involved in the movie … really focused!”

“But the second time I probably heard him talk about her was when he went to L.A. and he was very upset. Pac came in the room, he was like, ‘Jada gonna contact me like and tell me: DON’T DO NOTHING to Will Smith!’ the New Jersey native recalled with a laugh.

“So Pac was upset. I don’t know why she would think I would try and make some problems with Will Smith. So I guess it kinda hurt him. He had a lot of love for Jada Pinkett; a lot of respect for her. A LOT of respect for her!”

When asked if Tupac approved of staying on the sidelines, Napoleon disclosed that Tupac was mature enough to let the situation settle. However, he was offended by the request not to be violent toward Will Smith, as he felt it misrepresented him.

“He was offended when she asked him not to do anything to Will Smith from a standpoint not to be violent towards him. I think that just hurt him more than anything. Because he was like, ‘What do you think this is? I’m not walking around being this impulsive, violent individual. So I think that probably hurt his feelings at the particular time.”

Despite the criticism, Jada Pinkett Smith, shared the unearthed poem, explaining that it was an original concept from around 1995 when Tupac wrote it at Rikers Island. She felt he wouldn’t have minded her sharing it with the public.
