Jada Pinkett Smith Saved My Life – August Alsina Reveals
August Alsina revealed his struggle with Percocet addiction and credited Jada Pinkett-Smith for helping him overcome it.
The R&B singer shared his experience for the first time on Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk,” explaining how excessive shows, neglecting self-care, and substance abuse led to a frightening incident where he passed out and fell off the stage during a performance in New York.
August Alsina went into a coma and was hospitalized after collapsing on stage during a concert in New York City in September 2014. He was given a Percocet prescription for pain relief after suffering a fall injury, but he eventually became addicted.

August’s addiction was overcome when he sought out the help of Will Smith and Jada. According to Jada, the R&B singer took roughly six pills a day.
August believes that a phone call from Jada during his tour, in which she sobbed about his addiction, was a turning point in his life. His life’s course changed as a result of this poignant moment, which also made him aware of his influence on others.
“That was the thing, “To feel your emotion and to hear you bawling. That was a reality check for me. I was like, ‘Wow, if someone else can love you that much that it hurts them, why doesn’t it bother you that you are actually hurting yourself?’ That moment really changed the trajectory of my life.”
