Jada Pinkett recalls being confused after hearing Will Smith called her his “wife”
Jada Pinkett Smith recently revealed personal details about her marriage in the wake of the historic Oscars brawl that received widespread media attention.
Famous actor Will Smith violently confronted comedian Chris Rock on stage during the prestigious 2022 awards show after the latter made a joke about Jada that alluded to the movie “G.I. Jane.”
Jada expresses her genuine amazement at the inclusion of the term “wife” in the joke during a candid interview. She admits that both she and Will had stopped referring to one another as “husband and wife” for a considerable amount of time.
Jada Pinkett Smith is discussing what happened at the 2022 Academy Awards while on a media tour to promote her new novel, “Worthy.” Her now-divorced husband Will Smith appeared on stage and gave comedian Chris Rock, who was in the middle of accepting an award, a loud smack. It was a scene that caught the attention of the entire globe.

Jada admitted during an open discussion with Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show that she was in disbelief throughout the entire event. But what really caught her off guard was when Will took his seat again and addressed her as his “wife.”
At the time, Will yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f—— mouth,” after slapping him for making a “G.I. Jane” joke about Jada due to her bald head.
While speaking to Kotb, Jada said of the moment, “What is going on? Now, first of all, I’m really shocked because, mind you, I’m not there. We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time. I’m like, what is going on right now?”
She continued that while Will calling her his “wife” took her by surprise, she was “now really worried” for him as she wasn’t sure what was going on with the actor who later went on to win Best Actor in a lead role for his performance in the film, “King Richard.”
