After a fight with brain cancer, Johnny Ruffo, the former actor from Home and Away and X Factor contestant, passed away at the age of 35. After receiving surgery to remove a tumor in 2017, he was diagnosed with cancer again in 2020.

Last August, he disclosed that his condition was terminal. His death was declared in a statement that was uploaded to his Instagram account on Friday.

“It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny,” the statement read.

“Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible nurses and doctors.

“He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will. He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give.

“We all love you Johnny and will remember you for all the joy you brought to our lives. Rest easy.”

Ruffo, who was born in Perth in 1988, became well-known after competing in The X Factor in 2011 and placing third.

The following year, he recorded a duet with mentor Guy Sebastian, signed with Sony Music Australia, and took part in Dancing With The Stars. Ruffo was nominated for a Logie award for his role as Chris Harrington on Home and Away from 2013 to 2016. He revealed his diagnosis of brain cancer in 2017, had surgery, and then declared remission.

In November 2020, he shared on Instagram that his brain cancer had returned, stating, “After an unexpected week of seizures and excruciating headaches, it is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know I now have another huge battle ahead of me as my brain cancer has returned, though I will dig deep and beat this disease again.”

In August 2022, he declared his cancer was terminal, coinciding with the release of his memoir titled “No Finish Line.”
