Hermès Billionaire Decides to Leave Over $6 Billion to His Former Gardener
Nicholas Puech, an 80-year-old heir to the Hermès fortune, wishes to distribute his $12 billion fortune in a unique way. It was originally intended to benefit his Isocrates Foundation, but he has since changed his mind. Presently, he is attempting to establish a Moroccan “doméstique” (a domestic worker and gardener) as his legitimate heir.
Puech, who is childless, had originally intended to give the foundation his entire estate. However, the foundation’s portion would be diminished if he had a child or lawfully adopted someone else who would receive at least half of it.

The Isocrates Foundation, which promotes media and journalism, is unwilling to part with the funds on the grounds that it appears illegal to terminate the inheritance agreement. Although they disagree with the cancellation, they are willing to talk with the founder.
“From a legal point of view, a unilateral cancellation of the contract of inheritance seems void and unfounded,” the organization told CNN in a statement. “The foundation has therefore opposed the cancellation of the contract, while leaving the door open for discussions with its founder.”
