‘Good Times’ Actor John Amos Passes Away at 84

 Veteran actor John Amos, best known for his iconic role as James Evans in the 1970s sitcom “Good Times,” has died at the age of 84.

According to his son, Kelly Christopher Amos, John passed away on August 21 in Los Angeles due to natural causes

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” Kelly announced. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father.”

John Amos had a remarkable career, starring in several iconic shows. He played Gordy the Weatherman in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and older Kunta Kinte in “Roots,” earning an Emmy nomination. Amos also appeared in “The West Wing” as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace and famously portrayed James Evans in “Good Times.”

“He lived a good life,” said Kelly. “His legacy will live on through his outstanding work in TV and film.”

John leaves behind children Shannon and Kelly from his previous marriage to Noel Mickelson.

“Rest in Peace, Dad,” Kelly concluded.
