Ed Sheeran achieves another legal victory shortly after his recent triumph in a trial.US District Judge Louis Stanton, who presided over both cases, has reversed his initial ruling and dismissed the lawsuit filed by Structured Asset Sales LLC against Sheeran over his 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud.” This ruling marks a second triumph for the pop singer.
In the lawsuit, Structured Asset Sales, which co-owns part of Ed Townsend’s song, has accused Sheeran’s 2014 single of infringing on the copyright of Gaye’s 1973 anthem “Let’s Get It On.”

This lawsuit comes after Sheeran’s victory in a previous lawsuit against the heirs of Ed Townsend. Unlike the previous trial, where the focus was on the composition similarities between the two songs, the company’s owner, investment banker David Pullman, aims to compare the recordings of the songs in this ongoing lawsuit.
Pullman initiated his lawsuit five years ago, while Townsend’s heirs filed their own lawsuit in 2017. After achieving a recent victory, Sheeran expressed his celebration in a defiant statement, asserting that he would not allow himself to be used as a mere source of financial gain.
