Tyler Christopher, who appeared on “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives,” has died. The admired soap opera actor died of a “cardiac event” on Tuesday morning in his San Diego home, according to his ‘General Hospital’ co-star, Maurice Bernard.

Christopher, best known for his role as Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital,” appeared in over 1,100 episodes from 1996 to 2016. In addition, he appeared in 160 episodes of “Days of Our Lives” between 2001 and 2019.

He has received praise for his television acting and has been nominated for four Daytime Emmys, winning one in 2016 for his role in “General Hospital.”

Maurice Benard, Tyler Christopher’s former “General Hospital” co-star, announced his death on Instagram on Tuesday. While Christopher’s representative did not provide an explanation for his death, Benard stated in the post that Tyler Christopher “passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting,” Benard wrote. “Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.

Christopher was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”

He was married to Eva Longoria, an actress, from 2002 to 2004. He later married reporter Brienne Pedigo, and the couple has two children together.
