Actor and musician Tyrese Gibson was taken into custody in Atlanta on Monday for failing to pay child support, reports journalist Dennis Brown.
Gibson, 45, was ordered to pay $10,000 per month in child support for his 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, with ex-wife Samantha Lee. However, he failed to comply, leading Judge Kevin Farmer to find him in contempt of court.
Before his arrest, Gibson posted on Instagram: “I’m being taken away in handcuffs… They hate my guts, but I’ve worked hard to get where I am.”
Gibson accused Judge Farmer of unfairly increasing his child support payments from $3,600 to $10,690 per month, claiming it was done “arbitrarily” and in violation of his prenuptial agreement.
To avoid further legal consequences, Gibson must pay a total of $73,000, including back child support payments and $7,500 in attorney fees for Samantha Lee.
Gibson criticized the family law court system, saying: “It’s pretty clear they hate my guts… I’ve worked my ass off since I was 14 years old to get here.” (#FamilyLawCourts)
