Blumhouse Executive Confirms Release date for Jamie Foxx’s Spawn Reboot
Despite recurrent setbacks, Blumhouse chief Jason Blum remains committed to the 2025 release of the Spawn revival, starring Jamie Foxx. Since the original 1997 film, the project, centered on the supernatural comic book hero, has been in production limbo.
Blumhouse collaborated with Todd McFarlane in 2017, however the production was plagued by delays and substantial modifications. Blum confirmed the 2025 release in an interview with ComicBook.com, demonstrating unflinching optimism despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and Foxx’s personal health issues.
“2025 is when Spawn is going to come out. I stand by that. I stand by that.”
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe transformed comic book films with Iron Man in 2008, the 1990s produced a plethora of films based on smaller, independent comic titles.
Other studios looked beyond Warner Bros.’ concentration on Batman sequels following the success of 1989’s picture, highlighting works like Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin’s Tank Girl and John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s Judge Dredd.

New Line’s initial 1997 adaptation of McFarlane’s Spawn followed suit, with its own roots dating back to the 1994 cult classic The Crow, sharing more than simply a supernaturally resurrected hero tale.
Both Spawn and The Crow have faced difficulties in revitalizing their franchises, suffering multiple failures and passing through various hands.
As The Crow revival prepares to emerge from its own turbulent voyage and hit theaters around 2024, it’s fitting that Spawn will arrive a year later. In a film industry saturated with major player comic book adaptations, Spawn’s planned return in 2025 holds promise for a renaissance of indie comic book movies on the big screen.
