Ashanti Claims Irv Gotti Would Only Let Her Out Of Her Contract If She Agreed To Give Him 90% Of Her Earnings

Singer Ashanti has opened up about her tumultuous relationship with music executive Irv Gotti, claiming he demanded 90% of her earnings if she left Murder Inc. Records.

In an interview with Angie Martinez, Ashanti said: “He told me, ‘Well, I want 90 percent of anything you make, like for the rest of your life’… He was serious.”

Ashanti also alleged that Gotti sabotaged her music career, telling DJs not to play her records and blocking her from collaborating with other artists.

“Irv got into a dark place,” she said. “He was blocking a lot of things… He was telling people, don’t work with me.”

Despite their troubled past, Ashanti acknowledged Gotti’s contributions to her success, saying: “You helped make me great. You pushed me. I will always give him that.”

Ashanti has since become a permanent fixture in R&B, transcending decades with her legacy.
