Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly said that he still gets along with his ex-wife Maria Shriver and called his liaison with their housekeeper a grave error.
The announcement of the Hollywood action legend’s divorce from Maria made headlines in 2011. It was discovered that he had fathered Joseph, their housekeeper Mildred Baena’s son, with her. Joseph was born in 1998, a year after Arnold and Mildred started dating and just a few days after Christopher, Arnold and Maria’s fourth child, was born.
Despite the difficulties, the couple, who had been married since 1986, went to marriage counseling in 2011, which led to Arnold admitting to the affair and to being Joseph’s father.
Following Maria’s divorce filing, the Terminator actor emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive relationship. The ex-couple, who are parents to four children – Katherine, 33, Christina, 32, Patrick, 30, and Christopher, 26 – remain dedicated to open communication regarding their kids, as well as special occasions like holidays, birthdays, Mother’s Day, and Christmas.
Arnold expressed his enduring affection for his former spouse, stating warmly, “My connection with Maria will be everlasting.”
He’s spoken about his previous associations with the family’s former housekeeper. He stated in a 2017 interview that he was tired of “beating myself up” about it and that he wanted to quit thinking about it and concentrate on moving on.
“You can’t go back – if I could, in reality, be Terminator, of course I would go back in time and would say, ‘Arnold … no,’” he told Men’s Journal, adding that it was “not the way it works”.
The Austrian-born actor recalled the crucial moment Maria discovered the truth about Joseph, learning that the teen was in fact Arnold’s biological son, in a recent Netflix documentary about the venerable movie star.

Arnold’s disclosure caused their 25-year marriage to come to an end. They hadn’t created a prenuptial agreement, which was made clear by the fact that their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021.
After they split up, Arnold started dating Heather Milligan, a physical therapist who is 27 years his junior. While this was going on, Maria, then 67, was romantically linked to political expert Matthew Dowd, though sources said their relationship ended in 2020.
