Fresh off an award-winning season, five-time GRAMMY winner Samara Joy is set to bring her velvety vocals to New Orleans this summer. The jazz sensation, who recently took home her first NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album with Portrait, will grace the Orpheum Theater stage on June 1, offering local audiences a chance to experience her talent in an intimate setting.

Earlier this month, Joy earned her fourth and fifth GRAMMY Awards at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The Bronx native took home gold for Best Jazz Performance (“Twinkle Twinkle Little Me” feat. Sullivan Fortner) and Best Jazz Vocal Album (A Joyful Holiday). Joy previously won Best New Artist (2023), Best Jazz Vocal Album (Linger Awhile, 2023), and Best Jazz Performance (“Tight,” 2024). She has collaborated with New Orleans’ own P.J. Morton on the song “Why I’m Here,” from the movie Shirley, starring Regina King as groundbreaking politician Shirley Chisholm.
Last year, Joy told OffBeat, “Hopefully people don’t think that it’s like ‘now she gets to do what she really wants to do.’ Music is music. I love singing. I love songs. I love expressing myself through song. And whether that’s in the form of a gospel-soul original song with P.J. Morton or a jazz composition, I’m going to do my best to express and interpret it, and hopefully people can feel it and enjoy it.”
Joy also recently appeared as a featured guest on the 55th season of Sesame Street. Other highlights include a CBS News 60 Minutes profile, a PBS Newshour profile, a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and a string of sold out shows across Asia.
Joy will continue to tour across the globe throughout 2025, including her anticipated Carnegie Hall debut on April 30.
