Singer Lizzo faced intense backlash on social media after her remarks at a Kamala Harris rally in Detroit. “If Kamala wins, the whole country will be like Detroit,” Lizzo said, intending to highlight the city’s resilience.
However, critics quickly pointed out Detroit’s struggles, including an 8.8% unemployment rate, more than twice the national average.
“Lizzo said, ‘If Kamala wins, the whole country will be like Detroit,’ as she spoke at Kamala rally in Michigan. Does anyone else see a problem with that, or just me?” questioned Larry Jones on X.
Comedian David Angelo added, “My theory has been that Democrats know everything is about to collapse and they actually want Trump to win.” He accompanied his statement with a clip of Lizzo’s remarks.
Despite criticism, Lizzo aimed to showcase Detroit’s strengths, citing innovation in the auto and music industries. “Put some respect on Detroit’s name,” she urged.

Vice President Kamala Harris has also defended Detroit, previously calling out Trump‘s criticism of the city.
