Sven-Göran Eriksson, Former England Manager, Dies at 76

Former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson has died aged 76 after battling pancreatic cancer.

According to a statement from his agent, Bo Gustavsson, Eriksson died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. “The family asks for respect for their wish to mourn in private and not be contacted,” the statement read.

Earlier this year, Eriksson revealed that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, saying “in the best case it’s about a year, in the worst case even less.” He had been fighting the disease ever since.

Eriksson had a distinguished career as a manager, leading England to three quarter-final finishes in major tournaments and winning league titles in Portugal and Italy. He also managed several club teams, including Manchester City and Leicester City.

In a recent documentary, Eriksson said he hoped to be remembered as “a good man.” “I had a good life… Hopefully, at the end, people will say, ‘yeah, he was a good man’.”

Tributes have poured in for the former manager, with many praising his achievements and legacy. As his agent said, “Condolences and greetings can be left on the website (link unavailable)”

Rest in peace, Sven-Göran Eriksson. Your contributions to football will not be forgotten.
