Tragedy struck in Manatee County, North Florida, as a series of shootings claimed the lives of three women. The alleged shooter, 28-year-old Javontee Brice, was fatally shot by deputies in a confrontation.
The events unfolded when Brice visited his sister and ex-girlfriend at Palmetto Trace Apartments. He made threats against his ex-girlfriend, but his sister intervened, convincing him to spare her. Brice’s behavior was erratic during the visit.
He then went to a motel where his mother, her boyfriend, and two children were staying. In front of the children and boyfriend, Brice shot his mother, expressing remorse before fleeing.
Brice continued his rampage, shooting his cousin, a 29-year-old woman, in a parked SUV at another location. She succumbed to her injuries.
The motive behind Brice’s actions remains unknown. Investigators are examining social media posts and plan to interview family members to understand if any factors contributed to his behavior.
The sheriff’s office has expressed sympathy to the affected families and is conducting multiple investigations to gather more information. The names of the victims and relevant 911 calls will be released gradually, considering the families’ sensitivity.
The sheriff’s office will also review recent emergency calls involving Brice to gain insight into his state of mind before the shootings. Although the motive remains unclear, investigators are dedicated to uncovering the answers.
