Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘heart broken’ for ‘courageous’ Taraji P. Henson
In a recent interview, Jada Pinkett Smith showed empathy towards Taraji P. Henson’s struggles with pay inequality, though acknowledging their different circumstances. Pinkett Smith, who benefits from her husband Will Smith’s wealth, recognized that Henson, reportedly the main earner in her family, faces distinct challenges.
‘My heart broke for Taraji, and I was also happy, you know, that her courage – how courageous she was to speak about it in the way that she did, you know? It’s hard to speak about. One of the things with Taraji – she is the breadwinner of her family. Her pressures would be different than mine.’
Jada remembered industry reactions when she asked for more on-set benefits: “People would say, ‘You don’t need it. You’re married to Will.’ I’ve heard that several times.” This pay gap is why she’s opted for fewer leading roles since her 2017 films “Girls Trip” and “Gotham.”
Henson became emotional when talking about the pay gap and how it doesn’t reflect her worth, emphasizing the financial stress of her career.
