Tina Knowles shared sad news on social media, announcing the passing of her brother, Rowland Martin Buyince, known as Butch, at 77 years old. In an Instagram post, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles’ mother remembered Butch as an Air Force veteran who enjoyed motorcycles and had a talent for storytelling.
She posted a black-and-white military photo of him and expressed her deep affection and memories of him, highlighting his diverse interests and strong family bonds with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
“My Beautiful big brother Butch went to be with God this weekend. I will miss him so much ! He was a career Airforce man. He loved riding motorcycles, was a black belt in karate and had the most beautiful green eyes and good looks,” Tina reminisced, highlighting the multifaceted nature of her brother’s character. She also emphasized his deep connection with his family, including his wife, Jeanette, daughter Dana, and grandchildren Yvette and Roland.
The announcement of Butch’s passing came shortly after a family outing at the Luar fashion show in New York, where Tina, along with her daughters Beyoncé and Solange, watched her grandson, Daniel “Julez” Smith Jr., walk the runway.

Beyoncé, who recently dropped new country music, mirrored her musical transition with an embroidered cowboy hat, and Solange grinned proudly as she saw her son walk the runway. Following the performance, Tina documented the occasion with multiple shots, complimenting the designs and her grandson’s performance, and Solange expressed her happiness on Instagram by sharing pictures of her son’s runway debut.
Beyoncé addressed the impending release of the second installment of her Renaissance album, which is dedicated to her late uncle Johnny, who passed away when she was seventeen, during the family’s festivities.
