Johnny Depp gained a large following for his unique acting, but not all fans liked his appearances, especially his teeth. At the Cannes Film Festival last year, social media criticized the Pirates of the Caribbean actor for his dental hygiene. This led to the resurfacing of an old interview where Depp proudly talked about his teeth.

Interestingly, Depp incorporated his decayed teeth into his character as Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and even got gold caps for the first three movies. Some people suggest that it’s about time the actor went to the dentist.

At the Cannes Film Festival for his movie “Jeanne Du Barry,” Johnny Depp grabbed social media attention not for his legal issues with ex-wife Amber Heard, but because of his decayed teeth. Concerned fans and critics alike discussed Depp’s dental hygiene on social media.

Supporters pleaded with the star to get in urgent dental care; one critic called Depp’s teeth ugly. Others, though, stood up for the actor. During these conversations, a number of media sites brought up a 1995 interview in which Johnny Depp talked candidly about his tooth rot in Premiere Magazine.

Johnny Depp disclosed that he had numerous cavities and that his eight-year-old root canal was still incomplete. The actor who played Edward Scissorhands took delight in his unclean teeth, accepting their “imperfection”. He expressed his hatred for persons who had artificially flawless teeth, saying he would rather eat a bug than have them. In an interview with Premiere Magazine, the Lone Survivor star divulged these insights.

“I’ve got loads of cavities. I had a root canal done eight years ago that’s unfinished. It’s like a rotten little stub. But I like it. It’s like when the Indians would make something beaded, they would always put imperfections on it. I’m proud of these. When I see people with perfect teeth, it drives me up the wall. I’d rather swallow a tick than have that!”

Johnny Depp’s teeth eroded because of aggressive wear and tear over a lifetime, according to celebrity dentist Dr. Apa. The 59-year-old Depp’s dentist recommended veneers and noted witnessing cases identical to Depp’s in 30-year-olds, but apparently not too concerned about him.

Although Depp acknowledged these prior practices during legal suits against The Sun and Amber Heard, his aggressive wear and tear may have been caused by his use of cocaine, cannabis, and wine—which he spent over $30,000 a month on. Depp has gone into treatment more than once in order to kick these addictions.
