Emily Hampshire apologises for ‘insensitive’ Johnny Depp Halloween costume.

The Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire has apologized for her Johnny Depp-inspired Halloween costume. Social media users took issue with it.

In the show, she portrayed Stevie, a popular and sardonic character who is best friends with Daniel Levy’s David Rose.

The 42-year-old actress apologized profusely and felt ashamed of her costume selection. She described it as one of the dumbest, most careless, and ignorant things she had ever done. This is in response to her costume being criticized by fans for being Johnny Depp while her friend was dressed as Amber Heard.

Hampshire was also seen carrying a wine bottle in some since-deleted photos, which appeared to reference Heard’s allegations of sexual assault during the actors’ legal dispute last year.

Last year, Johnny Depp appeared in court with his ex-wife Amber Heard. He asserted that she had damaged his reputation when, in a 2018 piece for The Washington Post, she identified as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”

In the extensively followed trial, Heard claimed that in a fight in 2015, Depp had sexually assaulted her with a wine bottle. She explained, looking clearly upset, how Depp had accused her of having an affair with Eddie Redmayne, threatened to hurt her with the bottle, and then really used it against her.

Emily Hampshire apologized on Instagram for her Halloween costume after receiving harsh criticism.

“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done.

“For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard,” the note read.

“I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe. These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions.”

People on X criticized Hampshire for her costume, saying she was mocking abuse victims and adding to a culture that hurts survivors. This led Hampshire to apologize.
