Jada Pinkett Smith says she thought Will Smith’s Oscars slap was ‘a skit’
The incident at the 2022 Oscars where Will Smith approached Chris Rock has finally been addressed by Jada Pinkett Smith. She admitted that she had at first thought it was all a staged performance.
The 55-year-old Smith, a Best Actor candidate and ultimately winner, entered the stage and approached the comedian after he made a joke about Jada’s hair while presenting the prize for Best Documentary Feature.
The 52-year-old Pinkett Smith revealed to People magazine while seated next to Smith in the front row:
“I thought, ‘This is a skit’.
“I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.
“It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realised it wasn’t a skit.”
