Ed Sheeran Explains His Decision to Decline the Super Bowl Halftime Show
Ed Sheeran has revealed the rationale behind his decision to abstain from performing at the Super Bowl halftime show.
This iconic event, traditionally attracting an audience of around 100 million Americans, has showcased numerous prominent figures from the music industry, including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, The Weeknd, and Rihanna.
Despite sharing comparable fame with his fellow pop icons, 32-year-old Ed believes that the audience might not be inclined to witness his performance at the Super Bowl due to his perceived lack of ‘pizzazz’ required for such a grand stage.
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Deep & Shallow podcast on SiriusXM, Ed elaborated, stating…”
‘I think that would be the only way that I would do it is if I was joining someone else.’
He added that it was more of an ‘an American thing’, before remarking: ‘I don’t have pizzazz. Like, all of these amazing performers – I’m just not that. I’m not gonna have dancers on stage. I’m not gonna have fireworks and blah blah.

‘I just can’t, that’s not me. I don’t think that anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl either.’
Subsequently, Ed playfully suggested that he could enhance his presence by donning some “sparkles,” aiming to inject that extra touch of pizzazz. He then confirmed his perspective, stating, “I believe I would participate as a guest.”
Meanwhile, according to reports, Ed’s close friend Taylor Swift has also opted out of the opportunity to grace the grandest stage in American professional football.
Allegedly, Taylor’s decision is attributed to her exceedingly hectic schedule. The Super Bowl Halftime Show stands as an annual American tradition, featuring an artist or group of artists who deliver a medley of songs amidst the halves of the National Football League’s (NFL) most significant game of the year.
During the most recent edition of the event, Rihanna captivated the audience with her performance, stunning fans as she joyfully disclosed her second pregnancy.
